ABOUT THE PRODUCT

FG-2 Ready-To-Use Gel is the extinguishing product provided by Gel Systems Canada at an approximate ratio of 0.5% FG-2 Dry Concentrate to 99.5% water. FG-2 Ready-To-Use Gel is considered a medium-term fire retardant and has proven to be an effective tool when paired with GSC’s advanced blending mechanisms. By increasing the efficiency of water in direct attack and pre-treatment, FG-2 Ready-To-Use Gel allows users to be more effective while using less water overall. This improves resource utilization, allowing crews to accomplish more with the same personnel and equipment.

FG-2 Dry Concentrate is a water enhancer and will always be blended with water at the recommended rate prior to application. FG-2 Dry Concentrate is a super absorbent polymer (SAP), an ingredient frequently used across industries due to its high absorbency and non-toxic properties. When FG-2 Dry Concentrate is blended with water, it creates an environmentally benign and extremely effective firefighting gel.

The super absorbent polymer in FG-2 Dry Concentrate has been approved as a water enhancer under various trade names by the United States Forest Service for over 20 years for wildland fire management via fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and ground applications.

COLOURANT

FG-2 Ready-To-Use Gel is available in clear or Xtreme blue, making it highly visible to pilots and ground crews to ensure complete coverage while reducing accidental repeat applications.

The colorant is safe for animals and the environment and is UV degradable, meaning it will fade in several days with sun exposure.

KEY CONCEPTS

Gel Systems Canada’s portable precision blending technology was designed to deliver a high-quality product in large volumes with tailored viscosity. Viscosity is the measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow, or how “thick” it is. Using the right viscosity of gel ensures proper coverage, penetration, and adhesion to surfaces.

VISCOSITY

Higher application rates at a higher viscosity will provide protection for longer periods of time than lighter application rates at lower viscosity.

Potential applications include power grid infrastructure and values protection, fire guard/dozer break reinforcement, and wet line development for back burning.

Ability to build a thick, protective wet layer helps reduce evaporation. These protection rates can vary from hours to multiple days depending on environmental and application conditions.

A high viscosity gel (thick) is effective for pre-treatment because it sticks on the surface and provides a longer protection period.

PRE-TREATMENT

DIRECT ATTACK

Rapid knockdown of flames due to low evaporation rate of gel compared to water alone.

Potential applications include direct knockdown of flames via handlines or cannon trucks, supporting dozer breaks, rotary-wing applications.

Thin viscosity achieves better fuel penetration and greatly reduces reignition.

A low viscosity gel (thin) is effective for direct attack because it penetrates fuels to rapidly knocks down flame with minimal evaporation loss.
